An in-custody death in Prince Albert has been deemed suspicious in the wake of an autopsy.
Last Wednesday the Prince Albert Police Service was notified by the Saskatchewan Coroners Service that a 49-year-old male had passed away after being remanded in-custody at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre.
The Prince Albert Police Service Criminal Investigations Division opened an internal investigation which determined the man was arrested by the Prince Albert Police Service on July 3rd for outstanding Criminal Code warrants. He then appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court on July 4th where he was remanded into custody at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre.
On July 5th the man went into medical distress and was taken to the Victoria Hospital then transferred to a Saskatoon Hospital and passed away on July 9th.
The Saskatchewan Coroner’s Office and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the inmate’s death.
