The Government of Saskatchewan says during Operation Safe Driver Week earlier this month, 235 tickets were issued.
From July 7-13, members of Saskatchewan Highway Patrol pulled over 344 drivers in the province and issued tickets for speeding, unregistered vehicles, seatbelts, failing to stop at a stop sign, suspension from driving, overweight commercial vehicles and cargo securement violations. There were also 12 roadside suspensions issued for drug and alcohol usage.
As part of the campaign, Highway Patrol also conducted 238 inspections on commercial vehicles. Forty-three per cent passed inspection, 40 per cent were removed from the road with the remaining 17 per cent requiring attention before returning to the road after completing their current trip.
Launched in 2007, Operation Safe Driver Week is acknowledged annually by law enforcement agencies across North America and is coordinated by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA). The campaign’s goal is to encourage and improve safe driving behaviours. Caution is advised as drivers head out on the road for the upcoming August long weekend.
