Lyle Stewart passed away following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Premier Scott Moe revealed the news late Tuesday afternoon in a post on the social media platform X. Calling it another ‘difficult day’, he says Stewart was a key member of the Saskatchewan Party caucus for nearly 24 years, from 1999 until his retirement from politics from last year.
“Lyle was a man of few words, which is unusual for a politician, but you always knew where he stood,” Moe wrote. “His quiet strength and dedication to the people he served were an example to all of us who served with him. Lyle was a good friend and I will miss him a lot.”
Flags at the Legislature will be lowered to half-mast in Stewart’s honor.
