Almost 540 kilograms of cannabis was seized by Indian Head RCMP and Saskatchewan Highway Patrol on Monday.
Indian Head RCMP responded to a request for assistance with a roadside traffic stop after Saskatchewan Highway Patrol pulled over a tractor trailer unit on Highway #1 approximately five kilometres east of Indian Head.
A man driving from British Columbia to Ontario was arrested at the scene and officers seized four pallets of dried cannabis weighing approximately 537 kilograms or 1,180 pounds.
The commanding officer of the Saskatchewan RCMP says it’s a significant amount of cannabis and Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore reminds the public that while cannabis is legal to use in Canada there are still regulations on its use including a public possession limit. She said in this case illegal cannabis was being transported across the country to be sold from a non-licensed dealer. This violates product safety and quality control requirements, in addition to the fact its illegal.
Forty-year-old Inderjit Singh from Hamilton, Ontario is charged with one count, possession for the purpose of distributing, Section 9(2), Cannabis Act; and one count, possession of unstamped cannabis product, Section 158.11 (1), Excise Act.
