The Saskatchewan Health Authority has announced that in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, they are in the process of assessing how to expand health care service capacity in Saskatoon at its three adult hospitals, noting they provide services for the entire province. An SHA news release says the review and planning process over the next year will evaluate current pressures while identifying opportunities to expand both acute and long-term care capacity, building on recent step taken to address the capacity in Saskatoon through the Capacity Pressure Action Plan Similar efforts are happening in Regina as well.
An update on the action plans for both Regina and Saskatoon states that the SHA has hired more than 310 additional Full Time Equivalent staff, including 132 nurses. The SHA has also opened an additional 178 long-term, convalescent and transitional care beds in total for both cities.
