Monday the Saskatchewan Party announced it will improve access to health services for women by introducing self-screening for cervical cancer and help with the cost of fertility treatment.
The Saskatchewan Party says cervix self-screening will provide Saskatchewan women with an alternative to the Pap test. Saskatchewan women will be given the option to receive a self-sampling kit in the mail to screen for human papillomavirus (HPV), the leading cause of cervical cancer.
As well Scott Moe announced that if re-elected his government would provide a 50 per cent refundable tax credit for the cost of a first fertility treatment. The credit would help cover the costs for fertility treatments and related prescription drug costs to a maximum of $20,000, which would mean a $10,000 benefit.
Meanwhile the NDP says with flu season coming up, Scott Moe and the Sask. Party has no plan to deal with the influx of patients. They also say that if elected the NDP will invest to hire more doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers, increase staffing to keep emergency rooms open across Saskatchewan, create more permanent full-time healthcare positions to ensure frontline workers can stay in their communities and phase out costly contract positions.
