After two phone calls with President Donald Trump today (Mon), Canada’s Prime Minister says the proposed 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian goods and 10 per cent on oil and gas will be paused for at least 30 days while the two countries work together.
On social media, Justin Trudeau posted that he had a good call with President Trump, telling him about the $1.3 billion border plan which includes reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with the U.S. and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl. Trudeau states that nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are, and will be, working on protecting the border. Canada has committed to appointing a Fentanyl Czar, listing cartels as terrorists, and the border will be watched 24/7.
Trudeau mentioned a Canada – U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering and the Prime Minister also signed a new intelligence directive on organize crime and fentanyl which will be backed with $200 million.
