A routine traffic safety check on the Island Lake First Nation resulted in more than 60 charges being laid by Loon Lake RCMP last Friday.
The vehicle’s driver was unable to provide a driver’s license. A further investigation determined the name he provided to the officers was false.
Officers report finding a large quantity of stolen ID and financial cards, a sawed-off firearm, ammunition, a small amount of crystal methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
A man and a woman from Cold Lake, Alberta were arrested— 28-year-old Jarett Scanie and 30-year-old Geneva Williams.
They face the following charges:
28-year-old Jarett Scanie and 30-year-old Geneva Williams, both from Cold Lake, are each charged with:
– one count, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, Section 94, Criminal Code;
– one count, possession of loaded prohibited firearm without license, Section 95(a), Criminal Code;
– one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88, Criminal Code;
– one count, carrying a concealed weapon, Section 90, Criminal Code;
– one count, possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number, Section 108(1)(b), Criminal Code;
– 16 counts, unauthorized use of credit card information, Section 342(3), Criminal Code; and
– 10 counts, possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000, Section 355(b), Criminal Code.
Scanie is also charged with:
– one count, obstruct peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code;
– one count, operation while prohibited, Section 320.18, Criminal Code;
– one count, possession of a firearm while knowing possession is unauthorized, Section 92(1), Criminal Code;
– one count unlicesnsed possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code and
– two counts, possession of a weapon contrary to order, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code.
Scanie has been remanded into custody until his next appearance in court in Loon Lake on Thursday. Williams is scheduled to appear in Loon Lake Provincial Court on April 17.
