Premier Scott Moe announced on social media yesterday (Wed) that Saskatchewan is now a carbon tax free province, the first province in Canada to declare that.
Prime Minister Mark Carney had announced prior to the federal election campaign that the tax would be removed for all but the industrial emitters. Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has also promised to ax the tax across the board.
Moe says getting rid of the industrial tax will help businesses be more competitive, considering the tariffs from the U.S. and China. He hopes the parties running in the federal election will allow provinces to regulate in this area without imposing a federal backstop.
