A man and a woman have been arrested after an alleged altercation with the RCMP in Makwa, southwest of Meadow Lake. It included one of them running at an officer with a vehicle and crashing it into the side of a gas station.
Loon Lake RCMP were alerted about a suspicious male in a farm yard driving a grey SUV, and later noticed it on Highway 26. The officer attempted to stop it, but it sped away.
Later the vehicle was spotted at a gas station in Makwa, so police say the officer pulled in behind and arrested the the man driving it, but while escorting him to the police truck, he was struck from behind by the passenger. She then got into the SUV and it’s reported she accelerated toward the officer who was on the ground with the man trying to keep control of him. The officer was able to move he and the man to safety, and then it’s alleged she tried again before losing control and hitting the side of the building. No one was hurt.
Multiple weapons including knives, a machete, rifles, 3 semi-automatic handguns with 5 loaded magazines, a revolver and bags of ammunition were seized. Both 50 year old Stephan Leclerc and 35 year old Jolene Sinclair are facing multiple charges.
