A Humboldt Broncos tribute went live at noon Monday the City of Humboldt website featuring tributes and pictures of the team from 2018 as well as an opportunity to sign their guest book.
It was on this date, two years ago, 16 people were killed and 13 injured when a semi hit the Humboldt Broncos team bus on Highway 35 near the junction of Highway 335. The team was on its way to a semi-final game with the Nipawin Hawks.
The semi driver, Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, drove through a stop sign without braking and slammed into the Humboldt Broncos bus. He pleaded guilty in court to 16 counts of dangerous driving causing death and 13 counts of dangerous driving causing injury. Sidhu was sentenced to 8 years in jail.
The owner of Adesh Deol Trucking pleaded guilty of not following provincial and federal safety rules in the months leading up to the accident and was fined $5-thousand. His trucking company, under that name, is no longer in business.
Humboldt Mayor Rob Muench says they are asking people to observe a moment of silence when the church bell rings Monday afternoon at 4:50 p.m. which is the time the accident happened.
