The day before the Murray Doell campground reopened, a tornado advisory was issued for the RM of Meadow Lake. The advisory was issued around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
At the end of June last year, a tornado tore through the campground and Meadow Lake Provincial Park. It took down large swathes of trees and three people suffered non-life threatening injuries. Hundreds of people took shelter when tornadoes with winds of up to 175 kilometres an hour skirted the area to the north and south of the park and dropped golf ball-sized hail.
Friday, the campground re-opened. Restoration included completing repairs to the service centre, acquiring and installing Barbecues, picnic tables, site posts and numbers as well as water, electrical and landscape work.
There are currently 43 electric sites available. It’s on a first-come, first-served basis at the Murray Doell campground and campers can register with park staff when they arrive or use the self registration envelopes that are available after-hours.
