To put it mildly, 2020 was a challenging year.
The Prince Albert Rose Garden Hospice Association hopes 2021 will work out better for their fundraisers, with the hopes of having shovels in the ground next spring.
Association Chair, Marina Mitchell says they had originally planned for a large spring fundraiser and then the pandemic began and the province went into lock-down. The goal was also to be able to begin construction on the site along Marquis Road last spring, but that was also put on hold.
Then, organizers planned two fundraisers for the fall, but with the rise in COVID-19 numbers, they were cancelled. Mitchell says their next big fundraiser will be this coming spring and it will be a virtual event.
The hope is to reach 75 per cent of their fundraising goal of $4-million so they can begin construction.
Right now, the total is just over $2.4-million.
Mitchell explains that right now the only options for people needing care at the end of their lives is to be in the hospital or to be at home, so having hospice care gives people another choice. There will be ten self-contained rooms with hospital beds and two family rooms.
