Due to lack of physicians, the Biggar and District Health Centre will be closing the emergency department two days each week.
The changes commenced on Wednesday.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) issued a public service announcement stating there will be no emergency department services from Wednesday at 8 am. until Friday at 8 am. of each week.
The recruitment process includes the SHA, the local physician group and community stakeholders and will include locum, or temporary, physicians to cover the emergency department while a permanent physician is appointed.
In the event of an emergency while the department is closed, call 9-1-1 and EMS will be dispatched to assess the patient, determine treatment and transport the patient to the appropriate facility.
