The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra is traveling the Atlantic Ocean, and wants to bring everyone along.
It’s the SSO’s latest virtual performance coming up on Saturday night, with a Transatlantic Cruise theme.
Guest conductor, Judith Yan, says it’s not a cruise of today – it’s a nostalgic cruise of the 1930’s following the Queen Mary II from England to New York City.
The music will be about the locations and the feel of embarking on a cruise and being out at sea.
Yan considers it remarkable how the Saskatoon Symphony has been able to pivot to virtual performances during the pandemic, which has been such a challenging time for people in the arts and for those who enjoy the arts.
She notes that orchestras need people to make music and to hear their music and that part has been challenging worldwide.Yan is a Canadian conductor who has travelled around the world for her profession.
