First Nations in Saskatchewan will be getting their vaccines from the federal government as of April 5th.
This comes from a Memorandum of Understanding signed this week between the provincial and federal governments and the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations.
Indigenous Service Canada will receive 14 per cent of the province’s vaccines, plus a 20 per cent increase over populations numbers so those who are off-reserve can come to their First Nation to be vaccinated.
The ISC, the Northern Inter Tribal Authority and First Nations communities will work together to deliver vaccines to residents.
The allocation and distribution comes from the Saskatchewan Health Authority, the ISC, the Northern Inter Tribal Authority and the provincial Ministry of Health.
Also, in some communities, local First Nations are working with the SHA to establish vaccine clinics for any Saskatchewan resident.
