Getting new toys is always fun for kids, especially when you’re in hospital and not feeling good. Candis Hildebrandt from Kindersley says her daughter Kinley was born with a pediatric liver disease and for the last 6 years they have had a toy drive around the time of the 8 year old’s birthday.
She said every year they get in touch with the recreational therapist at the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital to find out what items are needed. Toys must be new and in their original packaging and they are not accepting stuffed animals. There is a real need this year for things like adult colouring books or activities for the teenage patients.
They are accepting donations in the Kindersley area through tomorrow (friday) and Kinley and Candis will be in Saskatoon Sunday so they can make arrangements for any donations in Saskatoon with the intent to drop everything at the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital on Monday.
Candis says while Kinley was being admitted she would receive toys to play with and it made such a difference to her stay in hospital. Plus sometimes, Candis says, they had to take Kinley to the hospital but didn’t have time to pack a bag. So Kinley wanted to get toys for kids in hospital “because it makes the kids happy.”
