The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission has amended the uranium mine and mill licence for the McClean Lake Operation to allow for the expansion of the mill tailings facility. There was a public hearing about the application in October, which included submissions from Orano, CNSC staff, McClean Lak Joint Venture partner Denison Mines, Cameco and interventions from the English River First Nation, Metis Nation-Saskatchewan, and the Athabasca Joint Engagement and Environmental Subcommittee, among others.
Orano Canada President and CEO, Jim Corman, says this licence amendment secures McClean Lake’s future as a regional milling centre for decades of operation on the east side of the Athabasca Basin.
