The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations, Yorkton Tribal Council, Prince Albert Grand Council, Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs and the Meadow Lake Tribal Council are jointly calling for the government to reconsider terminating the COVID mandates and protocols, saying in a news release that it puts First Nations communities at greater risk. Together, they are urging all First Nations to continue the COVID protocols.
P.A. Grand Council Grand Chief Brian Hardlotte says, “We consider COVID-19 a serious threat and we will follow the directives from the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority. If there is any doubt about the threat of this virus, then we should err on the side of caution, not carelessness.”
FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron says First Nations communities have been working around the clock to ensure the health and safety of their communities and schools and reducing or eliminating the protocols will only put our most vulnerable at risk all over again. He suggests it’s not safe to easy any restrictions at this time.
