A new position has been added to the Prince Albert Police Service in response to the death of a 13 month old boy on February 10th. Patrol officers were dispatched to a home in the 200 block of 23rd Street West just before 6 that morning, and then were called back around 11 the same morning for a report of a homicide of a child. The child’s father, Kaij Brass, was charged with second degree murder.
Police Chief Jonathan Bergen says an investigation into the initial police response was ordered, along with an investigation by the Public Complaints Commission. He adds that although the investigation is still underway, it has been determined that a structure change is needed within the organization, so now there will be an Inspector who will oversee the patrol section of the service specifically. Prior to this, there was an Inspector responsible for many sectors including patrol. That position continues, but the Inspector for patrol is new.
Lisa Simonson, recently serving in the Sergeant rank has now been appointed to the role. She has 22 years of experience as a police officer and previously worked with both the Edmonton and Vancouver Police Services.
