After nearly four years of planning and community consultations, the final design for Saskatoon’s new central library has been released. The Children’s Library on the second floor will include large play areas, a story room, an art lab, and a calm down zone for those that may be overstimulated. The Innovation lab includes an audio production studio and recording booth, a video production studio and a video gaming section. The Computer Lab provides a dedicated space for skills-based technology training. There is also a teen area with individual study carrels, group study booths, computers, and casual seating.
CEO of the Saskatoon Public Library, Carol Cooley, says a Storytelling Circle was designed in consultation with Knowledge Keepers, and it’s a physical symbol of our community’s commitment to reconciliation, promoting oral storytelling and Indigenous cultures. Remediation of the site at 321 2nd Avenue North begins next spring.
