The City invested $64-million in road, bridge and water main projects this construction season, including a major rehabilitation on Circle Drive North, rebuilding deteriorated curbs and medians and repaving the east bound lanes.
General Manager of Transportation and Construction, Terry Schmidt, says crews will return next spring to resurface the westbound lanes, and that was the intention all along to split the traffic tie-ups and restrictions to business access points over such an extended continuous time frame. Resurfacing and adding a right-hand turning lane on Warman Road southbound onto 33rd Street, repaving the Attridge Drive overpass at Circle Drive, and continuing the water main replacements in several neighbourhoods were other projects tackled this season.
Schmidt states that about 24 kilometres of water mains and sewer mains were replaced or rehabilitated this year, which is about the distance from Downtown Saskatoon to Warman. There were 494 water and sewer service connections this year, and 300 of those were replacing lead pipes. Schmidt says the City is on track to have all the lead connections done by 2027 as planned.
Looking ahead to next year, the nearly 40 year old Circle Drive North Bridge will be rehabilitated, along with other projects to be planned this winter. Working on sidewalks will also continue.
