There was almost a complete absence of Arctic air until the final few days of January—otherwise temperatures were well above normal.
Saskatoon had its 19th warmest January in 124 years with the montly mean temperature being three degrees above normal. It was twice that level in the far north at Key Lake and La Ronge.

The stagnant weather pattern that created the fog and low cloud also meant no large weather systems moved across the province. Precipitation was below normal at all locations, with the exception of Meadow Lake that benefited from a heavier snowfall in the middle part of the month.
