The number of blood donation appointments in Canada significantly shrinks during long weekends.
Currently, in Saskatoon there are 203 blood, plasma, and platelet donation appointments that need to be filled before April 12th.
Territory Manager for Canadian Blood Services Lisa Beechinor wants to remind Saskatchewan citizens that donating only takes an hour out of their day, and is crucial in saving lives of Canadians.
For example, it takes up to 5 donors to help someone going through cancer treatment, and up to 50 donors to help someone who has been in a car crash.
She adds that since the onset of Covid, the donor base has decreased by 31,000 people. Now, only 2 per cent of Canadians are supplying blood for the country.
Beechinor reminds that it only takes donators one hour to save a life. Appointments can be made at Blood.ca, by downloading the Give Blood app, or by calling 1-888- TO-DONATE.
