(as of Monday afternoon)
Along with heat warnings in southeast and east central Saskatchewan, Environment Canada has also issued a tornado watch. It’s for the western edge of the province from Leader and further north including Kindersley, Rosetown Biggar, Lloydminster, the Battlefords and Meadow Lake. Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which may produce tornadoes. Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible. This watch will continue through the afternoon and into early evening (Mon). Further north of Meadow lake, including Ile a la Crosse, Beauval, Buffalo Narrows and La Loche is under a severe thunderstorm warning.
Environment Canada’s heat warning for Saskatchewan includes southeast and east central Saskatchewan, as well as north of Saskatoon including Prince Albert and further west to Rabbit Lake. It’s hot and humid, and humidex values in these areas are expected to reach 38 for the next three days, with daytime highs in the low thirties.
The advice from Environment Canada when it comes to the hot weather is to watch for the effects of heat illness which include swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions. Drink plenty of water, even before you feel thirsty and check on older family, friends and neighbours. Also, never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
