Around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning officers spotted a vehicle in Saskatoon’s Meadowgreen neighbourhood that they knew to be stolen. A traffic stop was attempted in the 400 block of Montreal Avenue South, but the driver sped off into oncoming traffic and was seen by officers driving through a fence adjacent to Airport Drive and traveled onto an airport tarmac before driving through a second fence. The vehicle then hit a light standard on 51st Street and finally came to a stop on Idylwyld Drive north of 60th Street.
Two people inside took off on foot but were arrested by the Canine Unit a short time later. Police say a female passenger was found in possession of a loaded rifle magazine when she was arrested. More ammunition was found inside the vehicle.
A 27-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman are both charged with; Evade Police, Dangerous Driving, Mischief Over $5000, Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000, Endangering Safety of Aircraft, Possession of Prohibited Ammunition, and breach of court-imposed conditions. The woman faces an additional charge of Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.
