The Saskatoon Fire Department has been very busy lately, as they responded to three structure fires on Tuesday night. The first fire occurred at 8:07pm on Range Road 3065 in the Municipality of Corman Park. As they arrived, fire crews say flames could be seen engulfing the outside of the home, and all occupants were standing outside. Within 17 minutes, the fire was brought under control, and no injuries occurred. The damage is estimated at $20,000, and the cause is still unknown.
The next fire occurred just 42 minutes later at 8:59pm on the 100 block of Kenderdine Road. As crews arrived at the house fire, they said the attached garage and two vehicles parked outside could be seen totally covered in flames. A passerby had alerted the family inside of the fire, allowing them to exit safely. Fire damages extended to the two neighboring homes, and the fire was brought under control just after midnight. Damages are estimated at $780,000, and the cause was determined to be accidental and improper disposal of smoking materials inside the garage. The fire investigator on the scene also discovered that the smoke alarms were not functioning inside the home where the fire started. The home where the fire started was the same home where an investigation occurred in January when police made a traffic stop in the 100 block of Kenderdine and the driver said they had been robbed at gunpoint at a home in the area and a laptop was stolen. On January 21st a search warrant was executed at the home and a 35-year-old man was arrested and charged. The laptop was recovered.
The third incident, a garage fire, occurred early Wednesday morning at 3:20 on the 1200 block of 15th Street East. Fire crews say they could see the flames on the detached garage located near the alley. No one was inside the garage at this time, and within fourteen minutes, the fire was out. The cause of the fire was determined to be suspicious, and the Saskatoon Police Service was alerted. Damages were estimated at $40,000.
