Residents of Prince Albert are being encouraged to wear orange on Saturday in honour of the children who did not survive the Indian Residential Schools.
Prince Albert Mayor, Greg Dionne, declared September 30th as Orange Shirt Day in the city, as it falls on the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. With ‘Every Child Matters’ being the motto of Orange Shirt Day, orange shirts printed with the phrase can be purchased at the Prince Albert Indian and Metis Friendship Centre.
Several events to commemorate the day will take place over the weekend. Today (Thursday), the City of Prince Albert will hold a Blanket Exercise at the Arts Centre where participants can explore podcasts, books, and documentaries focused on reconciliation.
On Saturday, PAIMFC will be hosting a walk, a feast, and a round dance at their facility. The Prince Albert Historical Museum is also offering free admission from 1:00-4:00pm on Saturday.
