A brand-new basketball court was unveiled Thursday in River Landing by Victoria Park. Pawatetan court, which is a Cree word that means “let’s dream together” was unveiled with representatives taking part from the City of Saskatoon, Canadian Tire Jumpstart, and Hoist the Hoops.
Mayor Charlie Clark says, “It’s the product of an incredible partnership.” Mayor Clark along with others expressed their happiness with not only how the project turned out, but now there is a place for children of all ages and abilities to come out and play.
The court has two 3-on-3 courts as well as a full-sized international FIBA court built with high contrast colours to help those with visual impairments.
Co-Founder of Hoist the Hoops Michael Linklater, who grew up in Saskatoon, is just one of many people that are happy to see their dream become reality. “The community of Saskatoon has never had, really a central gathering place for basketball,” Linklater explained.
Linklater also went on to say how grateful they are for Jumpstart helping out as they helped fund the entire project.
