It took a little while for the offence to find their game, but just like the regular season, defense was ready from kickoff with Dalton Urban picking off the Colts quarterback that would result in a Teijon Abel-Douglas field goal giving the Toppers an early 3-0 lead. Later in the first quarter after marching down the field and positioned in the redzone, star running back Boston Davidson would rush the ball into the endzone extending Saskatoon’s lead to 10-0 with four minutes left in the quarter. Teijon Abel-Douglas would end the quarter with a 46-yard field goal and a score of 13-0.
Five minutes into the second quarter, the defense came up clutch again with a Pick-Six from Wade Keating extending the lead to 20-0. The offence would move down the field once again with Noah Flaman this time grabbing a ball deep in the endzone giving Saskatoon a 27-2 lead over Calgary heading into halftime.
The Hilltops didn’t slow down in the second half, as Charles Sawi ran the ball 56-yards into the house for another Toppers touchdown and a 34-2 lead. Boston Davidson would get his second touchdown of the afternoon on the Toppers next possession to take a 41-2 lead into the fourth quarter, with the defense recording 5 Interceptions including the pick-six earlier in the game.
The fourth quarter was quiet compared to the first three quarters with the defense coming up strong again to finish out the game. Tejion Abel-Douglas would kick another field goal and Xavier Sabo would run 78-yards for another Topper touchdown, giving them a 52-2 lead and after a safety given up, a 53-2 victory and a berth in the PFC Finals.
The Hilltops are set to host the Regina Thunder next Sunday, October 22 at SMF Field in a rematch of last years final, where it was the Thunder that came out on top. The Toppers had a perfect 8-and-0 regular season and Regina had a 6-and-2 record, both losses coming against Saskatoon. The Thunder took on the Edmonton Huskies this afternoon edging them 20-17 to advance to the PFC Final.
