Fertilizer Canada is urging the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation and Unifor to come to an agreement to end the strike that has shut down the St. Lawrence Seaway. It began on Sunday.
A statement from Nutrien urges the involved parties and the Federal government to take immediate action to resolve this dispute and retain Canada’s reputation as a reliable, global potash supplier. President and CEO of Fertilizer Canada, Karen Proud, says, “Any disruption to the supply chain, even for a day or two, impedes our industry’s ability to deliver products in a timely manner.” She notes this is the second labour dispute in the last four months that has shut down Canadian ports crucial to Canada’s supply chains.
There was a port strike in B.C. from July 1st to 13th. Nutrien, Mosaic, K + S Potash and Federated Cooperatives Limited are all members of Fertilizer Canada.
