Saskatoon City Administration has completed a report on the public engagement results regarding the Downtown Event and Entertainment District.
Although Saskatoon has a population of roughly 342,000, just 3,134 people completed the City’s survey, which aims to see what downtown features are most desired by the public.
The top five most favorable features, according to the survey, were places to eat, parking, well-lit spaces, places to walk or bike, and places to shop.
To make downtown more welcoming and accessible, the number one suggestion was to address safety concerns such as crime and homelessness. Adding more amenities such as entertainment options and new businesses were also common results.
The City also conducted 10 community group meetings throughout the engagement period, which saw a total of 102 people take part.
The report will be discussed at the Governance and Priorities Committee Meeting on January 17th.
