So far, 2024 has seen fewer fatal accidents on Saskatchewan’s highways.
Late last year, the Saskatchewan R-C-M-P raised concerns due to a high number of fatal collisions.
From September 1st to October 25th, there were 22.
So far this year, there has only been one fatal crash.
It was a single vehicle accident on the Regina Bypass on January 2nd, where the driver and sole occupant was declared dead by EMS at the scene.
RCMP Superintendent Grant Saint Germaine says data from last year shows a fatal collision, on average, every six days.
There were 71 fatal collisions resulting in 79 deaths.
Saint Germaine says some of the key ways to prevent and avoid collisions are not to speed, drive to the road conditions, don’t drive distracted, an always drive sober.
