Forty-four year old Alphonse Stanley Traverse was sentenced to 16 years in jail for killing an RCMP officer when he ran him over in June of 2021. The Winnipeg man was sentenced in Regina Court of King’s Bench.
On June 12th of 2021, RCMP Constable Shelby Patton of the Indian Head detachment pulled over Traverse near Wolseley, which is east of Regina, because he and his passenger were in a truck believed to have been stolen. He pled guilty to manslaughter last September.
Court heard that the six-year member of the force approached the truck, but it took off. Constable Patton put his foot on the running board and tried to grab the keys. He fell off and was run over.
Traverse and his passenger, Marlene Pagee were arrested a few hours later near the town of Francis. Traverse has been given credit for his time served in remand, so just under 14 years remains. He also pleaded guilty to vehicle theft, with his 18-month sentence to be served concurrently.
Pagee is charged with accessory after the fact to murder in 26-year-old Shelby Patton’s death. Her case is still going through the courts.
