Two men were arrested following Wednesday’s incident in which a firearm was discharged at police officers on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation, located 70 kilometres north of Prince Albert.
At 11:50 a.m., the Prince Albert Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team (WEST) observed two men walking in a residential area on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation. One of them was identified as 42-year-old Prentice Bowman, who was wanted by Ahtahkakoop RCMP on multiple warrants related to incidents over the previous four months. Those included uttering threats, assault with a weapon and other firearms-related offences. While officers attempted to arrest Bowman, police say the second man discharged a firearm at them with one of the officers returning fire.
Bowman was arrested while the suspect in the shooting incident fled but was located a few hours later on the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation. Officers seized a firearm and ammunition. Twenty-four-year-old Sheldon Badger was arrested and appeared in court Thursday, he was remanded and has a court appearance Friday at Prince Albert Provincial Court.
Badger is charged with one count of attempted murder, two counts of possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order, one count of possession of a firearm without license. while Prentice Bowman remains in custody on warrants with no charges being considered in relation to this incident.
