Governor General Mary Simon is making her first official visit to Saskatchewan tomorrow, although she did visit James Smith Cree Nation following the mass stabbing and she delivered remarks on Miyo-wiciwitowin Day in Regina in September of 2022.
A news release from the Governor General’s office says the visit will focus on reconciliation, mental health, education and climate change.
Simon will meet with provincial and Indigenous leaders, youth, educators, newcomers, artists and civic trailblazers during her visit which concludes on Wednesday.
The Governor General will be greeted by provincial dignitaries including Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty and Premier Scott Moe at 11:30 tomorrow morning. She will also inspect an RCMP guard of honour.
Then Simon will meet with the Premier at the Legislature, followed by a meeting with the Lieutenant Governor at Government House.
Later, she will visit the First Nations University of Canada.
Governor General Simon heads to Saskatoon Tuesday for a discussion on mental health services for farmers and ranchers, then a visit to the Maternal Care Centre at Jim Pattison Hospital, a meeting with Indigenous leaders and a visit to Wanuskewin Heritage Park to end off her visit.
