Through a collaboration between the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region Serious and Organized Crime team and the Saskatoon Police Service, two people have been arrested and a significant quantity of suspected drugs seized.
On August 1st, two homes and two vehicles were searched – one home in Eastview and the other on Shillington Crescent in Blairmore. About 26 kilograms of suspected meth and 9 kilograms of suspected cocaine were seized. Add to that about a kilogram each of suspected heroin and MDMA, along with magic mushrooms, over 1,000 Xanax pills and around $43,000 cash.
Both 39-year-old Edwin Covaci and 31-year-old Nicolas Franke of Saskatoon are facing possession for the purpose of trafficking charges. They are scheduled to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on September 19th. The investigation continues.
Inspector Richard Pickering of the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region says, “We know that the reach of illicit drugs impacts all corners of Canada and bring with it a host of other criminal activities and social issues to our communities. This is just one example of how multiple agencies can come together to jointly investigate safety threats impacting Canadians, remove dangerous drugs from our streets and bring those responsible to justice.”
