The Saskatoon Police Service has charged two 15-year-old boys and two teen girls, aged 14 and 15, after officers were mobbed on a call Tuesday night. Around 9:00 p.m. officers responded to a report of a fight in the area of Junor Avenue and Hampton Gate involving 15 to 20 youth.
In a news release police say arriving officers saw a large group surrounding an injured male on the ground and they refused to comply with police commands to clear the area so officers could render aid. Officers pushed forward and located an imitation firearm on one person and while seizing the weapon another teen advanced on the officers. But while trying to make that arrest, multiple other youth began attacking the two officers. Several more 9-1-1 calls were received to police Communications stating that the officers were in need of assistance.
Following the arrival of additional police officers the four teens were arrested and are facing a combination of charges relating to public intoxication, obstructing police, theft under $5000, and assaulting the police officers. The two police officers that were assaulted sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The 15-year-old injured youth was transported to hospital by paramedics for treatment for what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. Police are continuing to investigate.
