In a social media post on the weekend, Premier Scott Moe described the Trump tariffs as disappointing and says it will damage both countries’ economies, workers and consumers.
He says the Government of Saskatchewan is calling on the federal government to take all necessary steps to strengthen border security and to strengthen the Criminal Code of Canada to toughen penalties for drug offences, specifically fentanyl.
While Moe supports targeted and specific retaliatory measures to initial tariffs, he says it isn’t a long-term answer. The Premier says Saskatchewan’s exports are crucial to supporting food and energy security across North America and around the world. He closed with saying tariffs are harmful to all of us in North America.
Premier Moe will speak to reporters Monday morning from the Saskatoon Cabinet Office.
